Restore and maintain your vehicle's pristine condition with Fort Collins Collision Repair's auto body and paint services.
Vehicular accidents are sometimes inevitable on the road. If you encounter one, whether a minor fender bender or multi-car collision, you need to know that it can render your vehicle unsafe. Accident-related damage can also drive down your car’s overall value. That’s why it’s essential to have a trusted repair shop to provide you with reliable auto body repair services.
At Fort Collins Collision Repair, we can help restore your car to its pre-collision state. Our team of expert technicians provides auto body and paint repair services. When you come to us for collision repair, we’ll inspect your car’s body to determine the issues that need to be addressed. We’ll then perform the necessary repairs, so you can get back on the road immediately.
How Our Auto Body and Paint Repair Process Works
With over 100 years of combined experience, our team takes pride in our seamless and meticulous repair process. Here’s how our auto body and paint repair works:
1. Inspection and Quotation
Our professional auto technicians will perform a thorough inspection of your car to check its condition and determine the components that require repair or replacement. We’ll then provide you with a free computerized estimate of the total cost based on our analysis. Once we get the approval of your insurance company, we’ll proceed with the necessary work.
2. Teardown
In the teardown process, our team will repair or replace the damaged parts. The metalwork for repair is brought to as close as it can be—usually within 1/16th of an inch—before the filler is applied to it. The body filler is applied and sanded to a minimum of 150 grit. The finer the filler is sanded before priming, the less shrinkage the filler will have. Finally, it goes to the paint shop for priming and final sanding.
3. Prep
After the teardown process, we’ll wash the panels with soap and water and degrease them to remove any wax, silicone, or contaminants on the paint. Then, depending on the type of repair being done, we’ll determine the grit sandpaper used to sand the panel and prep it for the paint. Every painted panel is sanded with several different grits of sandpaper to create the best possible paint adhesion to the surface.
4. Paint
We’ll then mix the color at our in-house mixing bank. Typically, it takes 6-8 different colors mixed to the tenth of a gram to come up with the color of cars. We’ll test the color on a spray-out card to make sure it is a perfect match. If the color isn’t quite perfect, our expert painter will tint the color to get it as close to as humanly possible to the vehicle’s color.
Once our painter has the color right, we’ll begin the painting process, starting with a sealer, next is the color, and, finally, the clear coat. After the paint is cured, we’ll remove any minor surface defects so that your car looks as good or better than it did when it rolled off the showroom floor. We chemically catalyze our paint as well as bake the paint just like the automobile manufacturers do to get the desired matching finish.
When to Call for Auto Body and Paint Repair
There are many instances that’ll require you to bring your car to an auto body shop. Here are some of them:
1. Your car has been involved in a collision.
Collisions can cause minor and major damage to your vehicle. Even if your car looks fine and drivable, there can still be hidden damages that can impact your car’s look and performance in the long run.
2. Your car's exterior is dented, chipped, or scratched.
Minor dents, dings, and scratches may seem negligible, but when left unaddressed, they can lead to far more serious damage in the future. Having your car fixed can save you from costly repairs.
3. Your car's original paint has faded.
Your auto manufacturer’s original paint job may fade over time, which, in turn, affects your car’s overall value. Turning to auto body and paint experts is essential to maintaining a polished car exterior.
4. Your car's frame is titled.
Misaligned car frames can result in control issues and be a source of accidents. If you notice that your car tilts slightly toward the right or left side, take it to an auto body shop for frame alignment.
